Method and apparatus for improving data transmission in a digital subscriber line (DSL) system. The transmitter (100) determines whether a spectrum of an inverse Fourier transform (IFT) (102) is periodic with respect to a clock of a predetermined standard-size IFT and communicates this information to the receiver. Based on this information, the receiver adapts the FT if desired. In effect, the receiver adapts its signal processing algorithms to process the received signal in accordance with the transmitter's IFT size. In this manner, transmission performance is improved.
Procédé et appareil pour améliorer la transmission de données dans un système à ligne d'abonné numérique (DSL). L'émetteur (100) détermine si un spectre d'une transformée de Fourrier inverse (IFT) (102) est périodique par rapport à une IFT prédéterminée de taille standard et communique ces informations au récepteur. Sur la base de ces informations, le récepteur adapte la transformée de Fourrier, si nécessaire. Ainsi, le récepteur adapte ses algorithmes de traitement de signaux pour traiter le signal reçu conformément à la taille de l'IFT de l'émetteur. De cette manière, on améliore les performances de transmission.
