Described are a system and method for mining data in databases to discover significant relationships among variables in the data. An association is established between each pair of variables. From the data, the strength of the each association is calculated. Correlation coefficients can determine the strength of the associations. In another embodiment, the strength of each association is computed according to mutual information. These calculated strengths are evaluated according to a predetermined criterion. All associations that satisfy the criterion are included in one or more relevance networks. Each relevance network is displayed to provide a pictorial view of the relevant relationships among variables in the data.
L'invention concerne un procédé et un système d'extraction de données dans des bases de données, servant à découvrir, dans ces données, des relations importantes entre des variables, et consistant à établir une association entre chaque paire de variables, à calculer, à partir des données, la force de chaque association, et à déterminer cette force au moyen de coefficients de corrélation. Dans un autre mode de réalisation, la force de chaque association est calculée en fonction d'informations communes. Les forces calculée sont évaluées selon un critère déterminé, toutes les associations remplissant ce critère étant incluses dans un ou plusieurs réseaux de pertinence. Chaque réseau de pertinence est affiché de manière à fournir une vision illustrée des relations pertinentes existant dans les données, entre des variables.
