A system and method for migrating a computer to another computer having dissimilar hardware, wherein a preparation stage for the transfer of a disk image between the origin and target computer comprise analyzing the origin computer and modifying certain parameters therein while operating under its native operating system. After the modification an image of the origin computer is taken and sent to the second computer. The second computer can then boot the image as the necessary changes for booting the target machine were made at the origin computer. The invention is particularly useful for transferring physical computer to a virtual machine environment, where it minimizes the time the origin computer is out of service, where the transfer may occur remotely to the origin computer or the target computer. Most importantly, the invention provides a very high rate of success in migrating a physical system to a virtual system.
Système et méthode de transfert d'un ordinateur à un autre ordinateur muni d'un matériel différent, où une étape de préparation pour le transfert d'une image de disque entre l'ordinateur d'origine et l'ordinateur cible comprend l'analyse de l'ordinateur d'origine et la modification de certains paramètres dudit ordinateur, alors qu'il fonctionne sous son propre système d'exploitation d'origine. Après la modification, une image de l'ordinateur d'origine est prise et envoyée au second ordinateur. Ce dernier peut alors lance l'image, car les modifications nécessaires pour lance la machine cible ont été effectuées au niveau de l'ordinateur d'origine. La présente invention est particulièrement utile pour le transfert d'un ordinateur physique vers un système virtuel, où le temps de mise hors service de l'ordinateur d'origine est minimisé, et où le transfert peut avoir lieu à distance de l'ordinateur d'origine ou de l'ordinateur cible. Le point le plus important est le fait que l'invention assurer un taux de réussite très élevé pour la migration d'un système physique vers un système virtuel.
