A method and system for storing and retrieving spatial data objects from a spatial database is discussed. The system stores multi-dimensional objects within the database by determining their position in a multi-tiered coordinate system. Once each object has been assigned to a particular coordinate, the object is further assigned to one of many overlapping sections within the coordinate system. Each object is assigned to a particular section of the coordinate system (as in the figure) depending on its overall size and position.

L'invention concerne un procédé et un système de stockage et de récupération d'objets de données spatiales dans une base de données spatiales. Le système stocke des objets multidimensionnels à l'intérieur de la base de données en déterminant leur position dans un système de coordonnées multiniveau. A chaque objet est attribuée une coordonnée particulière et l'objet est affecté à une section de plusieurs sections se chevauchant à l'intérieur du système de coordonnées. Chaque objet est affecté à une section particulière du système de coordonnées en fonction de sa taille et de sa position globale.
