A system for controlling telephone and non-telephone equipment located on the premises of a telephone subscriber is disclosed. The system includes at least one internal tone control device (ITCD), connected between a telephone outlet and the controlled equipment. The ITCD receives, decodes and validates a sequence of DTMF signals, converts it into a d.c. control signal and monitors the respectiveequipment with the d.c. control signal which remotely switches on/off the respective equipment. A plurality of different appliances can be operated in a "non-line ofsight" mode over the telephone lines. A unique sequence of DTMF signals is associated with each ITCD. The sequence is selected such that the conventional telephone switching centre is not activated by it, for avoiding interference between the system of the present invention and the conventional telephone communication. When the equipment is a TV appliance, the system may include a receiving-switching unit connected to the TV cable network and to an optical fibre TV cable, for switching the TV appliance between the two TV networks. In this case, the ITCD is connected to the telephone line and to the receiving-switching unit.

Comprend au moins un dispositif de commande de tonalité interne (ITCD), connecté entre une prise téléphonique et l'équipement commandé. L'ITCD reçoit, décode et valide une séquence de signaux DTMF, la convertit en un signal de commande c.c. et contrôle l'équipement au moyen du signal de commande c.c. qui commande à distance la mise en circuit et hors circuit dudit équipement. Un certain nombre de différents appareils peuvent être exploités à distance sur les lignes téléphoniques. Une unique séquence de signaux DTMF est associée à chaque ITCD. La séquence est sélectionnée de façon à ne pas activer le centre de commutation téléphonique classique, afin d'éviter le brouillage entre le système de la présente invention et la communication téléphonique classique. Lorsque l'équipement est un appareil de télévision, le système peut comprendre une unité de réception-commutation connectée au réseau de télédistribution et à un câble de télévision à fibres optiques, pour faire passer l'appareil de télévision d'un réseau à l'autre. Dans ce cas, l'ITCD est connecté à la ligne téléphonique et à l'unité de réception-commutation.
