A system for verifying and depositing a cheque comprises a cheque and a card having data relating to the owner of the card and an authorisation code. The card data is transmitted over a communication network to a control station. The control station checks the card authorisation against stored data, accesses guarantee means for an amount limit, and transmits approval with a cheque receipt identifier so that the account data base may have its balance adjusted.

Les données de la carte sont transmises à un poste de contrôle via un réseau de communication. Le poste de contrôle vérifie si le code d'autorisation correspond aux données enregistrées, accède à des moyens de garantie afin de connaître le montant maximal autorisé, et transmet une autorisation assortie d'un identificateur d'encaissement de chèque de manière à pouvoir ajuster le solde de la base de données du compte.
