A recording device characterized by the ability to record data continuously onto a temporary storage media over an indefinite period of time. Previously recorded data are overwritten with newly captured data when storage capacity has been reached, based on First-In-First-Out algorithm. Data from temporary media is transferred and organized in chronological order, to a permanent storage media upon the detection of a storage signal. An application of the device is the recording of an automotive collision. For example, the user is able to record events that took place before and after a collision. On the other hand, existing recording devices are only able to record events after a collision if the user did not start a recording before the collision. Moreover, existing recording devices will not record data when storage capacity has been reached. The device provides a cost-effective solution to record useful data over a specific period of time.
