The invention relates to a subscriber positioning system in a cellular telephone system. On a geographic information system GIS is built a software using data retrievable from the telephone system and digital maps of the geographic information system. Cell coverage areas of the radio network are displayed graphically on the map. Subscriber information including the location of the subscriber is inputted to the subscriber positioning, which on the basis of the location determines a home cell for the subscriber, and whether more cells have to be assigned as home cells. Subscriber data can be transmitted to various databases like home location register HLR, the billing system etc. When amendments, such as insertion of new cells or changes in the cell identifications, are made in the network planning system and in the network managing system, the new data are inputted to the subscriber positioning system, which checks if there is a need to change the home cells of the subscribers.

L'invention concerne un système de localisation d'abonné fonctionnant dans le cadre d'un système téléphonique cellulaire. Sur la base d'un système d'information géographique (SIG), on conçoit un logiciel utilisant des données susceptibles d'être extraites du système téléphonique et des cartes numériques du système SIG.
