A tamping machine (1) comprises a machine frame (2) and a subframe (11), arranged between the on-track undercarriages (3), which is mobile on the track by means of an undercarriage (14) and is longitudinally displaceably connected to the machine frame (2) by means of a frame support (17). Arranged between the undercarriage (14) and the frame support (17) are a vertically adjustable tamping unit (19) as well as a track lifting unit (20). The frame support (17) is mounted on the machine frame (2) for displacement perpendicularly to the longitudinal direction (12) of the machine and connected to a transverse drive linked to the machine frame (2).
