A tangential cutting insert (1) has a body with an operative front surface (2) associated with upper and lower main cutting edges (10), side auxiliary cutting edges (12) and corner cutting edges (14) therebetween. All cutting edges have rake surfaces (20, 22, 24) formed at the front surface and extending from their associated cutting edges in an inward direction of the cutting insert. The cutting insert has an imaginary reference plane (P) passing through extremities of the cutting corner edges (14) thereof. Each of the main cutting edges (10) extends from its associated corner edges (14) in an inward direction of the cutting insert away from the reference plane (P).

L'invention concerne un élément de coupe tangentiel (1) pourvu d'un corps qui présente une surface avant d'exécution (2), associée à des bords coupants principaux supérieur et inférieur (10), des bords coupants latéraux auxiliaires (12), et des bords coupants en coin (14), placés entre lesdits bords coupants principaux. Tous ces bords coupants présentent par ailleurs une surface de coupe (20, 22, 24) formée au niveau de ladite surface avant de manière à pouvoir s'étendre de leurs bords coupants associés vers l'intérieur de l'élément de coupe. Cet élément de coupe comporte également un plan de référence imaginaire (P) qui traverse les extrémités de ses bords coupants en coin (14). En outre, chacun des bords coupants principaux (10) s'étend de ses bords coupants en coin associés (14) vers l'intérieur de l'élément de coupe, et à l'écart dudit plan de référence (P).
