In a technique for setting up calls in IP mobile networks, when an application level in a mobile station sends a setup message to set up a multimedia call, before sending such a message over the radio interface, the mobile station performs the appropriate procedures to setup the appropriate bearers over the radio interface and in the network to satisfy the call requirements specified by the application level in the setup message. The technique applies to both mobile originated calls and mobile terminated calls, the mobile station performing the transport level procedures after having received a setup message and before sending a confirmation/call acceptance message back to the calling party. Furthermore, the allocation of radio resources for PDP contexts that will be used to carry the media of a multimedia IP call is delayed so that no radio resources are allocated to the PDP contexts activated before the call control signaling is exchanged. The radio resources are allocated only when the call signaling has been completed and the called party has accepted the call and indicated the call characteristics that it can support. An indication is forwarded from the SGSN to the GGSN advising that no packets are to be sent on the PDP context because there are no radio resources for the PDP context. Quality of service negotiations for RAB are effected with an additional parameter that contains either a list of alternative values or the lowest acceptable value.
Dans une technique d'établissement d'appels dans des réseaux mobiles à protocole IP, lorsqu'un niveau application d'une station mobile envoie un message d'établissement pour établir un appel multimédia, avant d'envoyer un tel message sur l'interface radio, la station mobile exécute les procédures appropriées pour établir les voies porteuses sur l'interface radio et dans le réseau de manière à satisfaire les exigences relatives aux appels spécifiées par le niveau application dans le message d'établissement. Cette technique s'applique à la fois aux appels d'origine mobile et aux appels à terminaison mobile, la station mobile exécutant les procédures du niveau transport après avoir reçu un message d'établissement et avant de renvoyer un message de conformation/acceptation d'appel à la partie appelante. En outre, l'attribution des ressources radio pour les contextes PDP devant être utilisés pour transporter les données multimédia d'un appel IP multimédia est retardée de sorte qu'aucune ressource radio n'est attribuée aux contextes PDP activés avant que la signalisation de commande des appels ne soit échangée. Les ressources radio sont attribuées uniquement lorsque la signalisation d'appel est terminée et que la partie appelée a accepté l'appel et indiqué les caractéristiques de l'appel qu'elle peut prendre en charge. Une indication est transmise du SGSN au GGSN, signifiant qu'aucun paquet ne doit être envoyé sur le contexte PDP du fait qu'aucune ressource radio n'est disponible pour ce contexte PDP. Les négociations relatives à la qualité de service des voies porteuses à accès radio (RAB) sont effectuées avec un paramètre supplémentaire qui contient soit une liste d'autres valeurs possibles soit la valeur acceptable la plus faible.
