A transfer configuration for a paper making machine, the transfer configuration being composed of: 1 ) a first carrier fabric having a first surface on which a fibrous web is transported to the transfer configuration at a first velocity; 2) a second carrier fabric having a second surface on which the fibrous web is transported away from the transfer configuration at a second velocity that is less than the first velocity; 3) a lengthened transfer zone that begins at a transfer shoe and terminates at a portion of a transfer head and has a machine direction oriented length ranging from about 0.75 inches to about 10 inches; 4) means for guiding the first carrier fabric and fibrous web over the transfer shoe so they converge at a first angle with the second carrier fabric, the first angle being sufficient to generate centrifugal force to aid transfer of the fibrous web and so the first and second carrier fabrics begin diverging immediately after the transfer shoe at a second angle such that the distance between the first and second carrier fabrics through the transfer zone is about equal to the thickness of the fibrous web; and 5) means for applying a gaseous pressure differential to complete the separation of the fibrous web from the first carrier fabric, so that the resulting fibrous web has greater machine direction extensibility than fibrous webs processed with the same carrier fabrics in differential speed transfer configurations without a lengthened transfer zone. A process of making a machine direction extensible fibrous web and an article produced thereof are also disclosed.
Configuration de transfert pour machine à papier comportant : 1) une première toile avec une première surface sur laquelle une bande fibreuse est transportée à une première vélocité vers l'intérieur; 2) une deuxième toile avec une deuxième surface sur laquelle la bande fibreuse est transportée à une deuxième vélocité vers l'extérieur; 3) une zone de transfert allongée allant d'un sabot de transfert jusqu'à une partie de la tête de transfert et orientée dans le sens du défilement sur une longueur variant entre 0,75 pouce jusqu'à environ 10 pouces; 4) un dispositif pour guider la première toile et la bande fibreuse par-dessus le sabot de transfert pour obtenir un premier angle de convergence avec la deuxième toile, le premier angle devant suffire à générer la force centrifuge nécessaire pour contribuer au transfert de la bande fibreuse, la première et la deuxième toiles devant commencer à diverger immédiatement après leur passage sur le sabot de transfert selon un deuxième angle, de telle sorte que la distance entre la première et la deuxième toiles à travers la zone de transfert soit environ égale à l'épaisseur de la bande fibreuse; 5) un dispositif pour appliquer un différentiel de pression gazeuse pour compléter la séparation de la bande fibreuse de la première toile, de façon à obtenir une bande fibreuse avec extensibilité dans le sens du défilement supérieure à celle des bandes fibreuses traitées sur les mêmes toiles dans des configurations à différentiel de vitesse, sans zone de transfert allongée. Un procédé pour la production d'une bande fibreuse extensible dans le sens du défilement machine et un article ainsi produit sont également dévoilés.
