A urinary incontinence device and a method of making the device. The device includes a resilient member and a non-absorbent which at least partially encloses the resilient member. The non-absorbent and the resilient member are formed into an elongated softwind having a first end and a second end. The softwind is folded upon itself such that the first and second ends are aligned adjacent to one another and the softwind contains at least two folds therebetween. The resilient member extends between at least two of the folds. The softwind is then compressed into an elongated pledget having an insertion end and a trailing end with the resilient member located at least in the insertion end. The resilient member is capable of expanding at least a portion of the pledget to provide a supportive backdrop for a woman's urethra when inserted into a woman's vagina.
Cette invention concerne un dispositif pour incontinence urinaire ainsi que son procédé de fabrication. Ce dispositif comporte un élément souple et une matière non absorbante qui enveloppe au moins en partie l'élément souple. L'élément souple et la matière non absorbante se présentent sous la forme d'un rouleau comportant une première et une seconde extrémité. Le rouleau est replié sur lui-même de telle sorte que les première et seconde extrémités se trouvent l'une contre l'autre et que le rouleau fasse au moins deux plis entre ces extrémités. L'élément souple remplit l'espace compris entre au moins deux plis. Le rouleau est ensuite comprimé en forme de tampon allongé présentant une extrémité d'insertion et une extrémité arrière, l'élément souple étant situé au moins dans l'extrémité d'insertion. L'élément souple fait se dilater au moins une partie du tampon qui constitue un support postérieur dans le vagin. Le procédé de fabrication consiste à enfermer l'élément souple dans la matière non absorbante, à plier les deux matériaux en rouleau, à rabattre l'une contre l'autre les extrémité du rouleau selon une forme générale de M et à comprimer enfin le rouleau en forme de tampon.
