ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A flexible and resilient abrading or detergent pad as a cleansing, scouring and smoothing or finishing device having a pervious and knitted outer covering of synthetic yarn and an engaging core of synthetic plastic sponge frictionally biased against the inner surfaces of the covering walls, the transverse edge areas of the cover- ing and core being compressed and integrated for anchorage of the core to the covering. For manufacture, the sponge core is inserted into the sleeve, the assembly compressed and the transverse edge areas of both covering and core while under compression integrated or connected while under further compression at such areas. Trimming of the reduced and integrated or connected edges takes place following said procedure.
