ABRASION AND ANTIFOG-RESISTANT OPTICAL ELEMENT Abstract of the Disclosure An optical element is provided having a durable abrasion- resistant, antifog coating applied to at least one surface thereof by coating an optical element comprised of an inorganic or organic transparent base with a transparent abrasion-resistant antifog coating consisting of a lightly cross-linked polyvinyl alcohol, the desired degree of cross-linking being obtained by utilizing a combination of zirconium nitrate and formaldehyde as cross-linking agents.
