Abrasive articles and a method of making the abrasive articles are provided wherein the method lam- inates a make coat precursor to atypical backing mate- rials that include materials generally deemed inappro- priate by those skilled in the art such as open-weave cloth, knitted fabrics, porous cloth, loop materials, un- treated paper, unsealed fabrics, opened or closed cell foams, nonwovens, spun-fibers and the like.
