The present invention provides an abrasive cleaning article (100), a method of making an abrasive cleaning article, and a method of cleaning a surface with an abrasive cleaning article. In one aspect, the abrasive cleaning articles comprises a substrate (110), a water-soluble binder (126) having a weight average molecular weight less than 200,000, and a plurality of abrasive particles (124) releasably secured to the substrate by the water-soluble binder. The abrasive particles release from the substrate upon contact with a solvent.
