Cutting members are formed with abrasive material comprising a plurality of particles protruding through a surface of the retaining material with optional assistance of mesh material for durable cutting members; and the cutting members are selectively continuous or discontinuous and spatially mounted along the working edge (29) of a core (25). Some of the cutting members or portions of the cutting members are arranged for stock removal (28), and same are arranged for gauge keeping (26). Since the individual portions are separate, more shock removal portions can be included, with fewer gauge keeping portions as may be required. Alternatively, the cutting members may zig-zag acres the core to provide stock removal, while the sides of the members provide the gauge keeping function.
