ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A dentifrice comprising from 7.5% to 75% by weight of calcium pyrophosphate having a mean particle diameter in the range from 1 to 15 microns and which has been pretreated with a non-toxic inorganic zinc compound in an amount to provide at least 0.0065% by weight zinc to the dentifrice the amount of the zinc compound in the dentifrice being up to 1% by weight, to reduce the enamel abrasivity, the dentifrice containing calcium pyrophosphate pretreated with a non-toxic inorganic zinc compound as providing superior polishing action without undue enamel abrasivity.
