Disclosed are coated fibers that are capable of absorbing and spontaneously transporting certain fluids, for example aque- ous fluids, such as water, on their surfaces. The coated fibers are coated with a superabsorbant polymer. The coated fibers, espe- cially in the form of tow, can be incorporated into absorbant articles, such as diapers.
