An apparatus and a method for preparing an absorbent article is disclosed. The apparatus has at least two forming surfaces which differ in terms of air permeability to allow the selective placement of fibrous material. The forming surface comprises a perforated forming screen. The forming screen has multiple zones with different amounts of open area through which air may pass. Particles carried in the air which flows through the open area are deposited on different zones of the forming screen resulting in different basis weights corresponding to the different air permeabilities. The apparatus and method thus provide an article having optimal zoned absorbency in a cost-effective manner.

L'invention concerne un appareil et un procédé de fabrication d'un article absorbant. Cet appareil possède au moins deux surfaces de formage différentes en terme de perméabilité à l'air qui permettent de disposer sélectivement la matière fibreuse. La surface de formage comprend un voile de formage perforé. Ce voile de formage comporte des surfaces multiples présentant des degrés différents d'ouverture prévues pour le passage de l'air. Les particules transportées par l'air qui s'écoule par les surfaces ouvertes se déposent sur différentes surfaces du voile de formage, entraînant ainsi des masses surfaciques différentes correspondant chacune aux différentes perméabilités à l'air. L'appareil et le procédé de l'invention permettent d'obtenir de manière rentable un article caractérisé par un pouvoir absorbant par zones optimal.
