An absorbent article such as a sanitary napkin, having an improved topsheet that provides improved skin comfort as well as superior fluid handling characteristics. Such absorbent articles comprise a main body portion preferably comprising a liquid previous topsheet, a liquid impervious backsheet, and an absorbent core positioned between the topsheet and the backsheet. The main body portion has longitudinal edges and lateral edges. The topsheet has a central zone and a pair of end zones extending laterally outwardly from and contiguous with the central zone. The topsheet comprises a nonwoven outer layer and an apertured thermoplastic film layer. The nonwoven outer layer has an opening in the central zone. The apertured thermoplastic film layer is positioned beneath the nonwoven outer layer so that the apertured thermoplastic film layer and the nonwoven outer layer covers the end zones while the apertured thermoplastic film layer is exposed through the opening of the nonwoven outer layer in the central zone.

Lesdits articles absorbants comprennent une partie formant un corps principal comportant de préférence une feuille supérieure perméable aux liquides, ainsi qu'une âme absorbante positionnée entre la feuille supérieure et la feuille de support. La partie formant le corps principal présente des bords longitudinaux et latéraux. La feuille supérieure présente une zone centrale ainsi qu'une paire de zones terminales s'étendant latéralement à l'extérieur de la zone centrale et de manière contiguë par rapport à celle-ci. Ladite feuille supérieure comprend une couche extérieure non tissée ainsi qu'une couche se présentant sous la forme d'un film thermoplastique ajouré. La couche extérieure non tissée présente une ouverture positionnée dans la zone centrale. La couche sous forme de film thermoplastique ajouré est positionnée au-dessous de la couche extérieure non tissée de manière que le film thermoplastique ajouré et la couche extérieure non tissée recouvrent les zones terminales, tandis que le film thermoplastique ajouré est exposé par l'ouverture de la couche extérieure non tissée se trouvant dans la zone centrale.
