Disclosed is an absorbent composition including a hydrogel-forming polymeric material and a magnetically-responsive material; disposable absorbent products, including the absorbent composition, intended for the absorption of body fluids; and a method for incorporating the absorbent composition into disposable absorbent products. The method entails using a magnetic field to contact the magnetically- responsive material present in the absorbent composition. The absorbent composition remains substantially unmagnetized when a magnetic field is absent.
