ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An absorbent dressing, which is atoxic, compatible with the tissue and well adapted to the shape of the wound and can be easily removed again, protects the wound against infections and confines it in that it absorbs bacteria, fungi, toxins, proteins and inflammation mediators and which thus is suitable for covering intensely oozing infectious wounds as well as affected areas in skin and tissue diseases, consists of potentially macroporous particulate mixtures of regenerated cellulose and a polysaccharide derivative con- taining carboxylate groups. For producing said dressing viscose solutions containing the admixed polysaccharide derivative are thermally coagulated after shaping, purified and dried.
