An absorbent material that comprises a water-insoluble, absorbent polymer. The absorbent material comprises a reactive polyether chemically bonded to the absorbent polymer whereby the contact angle of blood on a surface of the absorbent material attains from about 0 degree to about 40 degrees. Because of the improved wettability with liquids, the absorbent material can provide higher absorbent characteristics with liquids, in particular with blood.

Ledit matériau absorbant renferme un polyéther réactif lié chimiquement au polymère absorbant par une liaison telle que l'angle de contact du sang sur une surface dudit matériau absorbant est d'environ 0 degré à environ 40 degrés. En raison de la mouillabilité accrue obtenue avec des liquides, le matériau absorbant peut exhiber des caractéristiques abosorbantes plus élevées avec des liquides, en particulier avec du sang.
