The pad has a core (1) of an air laid web consisting of wood pulp fibre, super- absorbent fibre, and thermoplastic bonding material. The web is laid on a non- woven polyethylene tissue (2) and is coated with a release layer film (3) of polypropylene based material. The edges (4) of the pad are compressed, typically along a 3 mm wide margin (5), with the web being flattened and head bonded in its compressed state, with the backing and release layers united to it. This compression of the air laid web captivates fibres of the web from escaping from the cut edges. The pad is used in a meat tray, with the release layer uppermost. This avoids the meat sticking to the pad. Blood from the meat can flow around the edges of the pad and pass through the non-woven tissue to be absorbed into the web.

Le napperon comporte un âme (1) formée d'un voile aérolique constitué de fibres de pâte de bois, de fibres superabsorbantes et d'une matière de liaison thermoplastique. Le voile est déposé sur un tissu (2) en polyéthylène non-tissé et recouvert d'un film (3) de couche de libération formé d'une matière à base de polypropylène. Les côtés (4) du napperon sont comprimés, en général sur une marge (5) de 3 mm de largeur, le voile étant aplati et thermosoudé à l'état comprimé alors que les couches arrière et de libération sont reliées au voile. Le fait de comprimer le voile aérolique permet d'empêcher les fibres du voile de sortir par les bords coupés. On utilise ce napperon pour garnir le fond d'une barquette pour la viande, la couche de libération se situant au-dessus. La viande ne colle pas au napperon et le sang de la viande peut s'écouler sur le pourtour du napperon et traverser le tissu non tissé pour être absorbé dans le voile.
