Applicant: Lyall Ayers McLennan Title: Abutment Swivel Doorstop ABSTRACT Doorstop mechanism, including a stop member carried by a mounting plate mounted on a doorjamb to swing between a position in the path of the door to block its opening and a position retracted out of the path of door-opening movement, is reinforced to prevent the doorstop mechanism being broken in an attempted forced entry. Also, the mounting plate may be reversible for use with right-hand or left-hand doors, respectively, by providing two latch projections engageable alter- natively by a groove in the stop member to latch the stop member in position blocking opening of the door. A helical spring urges the stop member out of latching position when the stop member is not in door-blocking position. The doorstop mechanism is strengthened by adding a reinforcing block to abut a mounting plate ear providing a socket for a hardened pintle which carries the stop member that is retained in place by a pigtail of the helical spring friction fitted in the mounting plate ear pintle socket. A faceplate has a wedge- shaped projection engageable by the stop member. A gusset strengthens the mounting plate ear.
