ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An acceleration balanced hydrophone which is comprised of a radially poled piezoelectric cylinder, a stiff rod passing axially through the cylinder, and hemi- spheric end caps of equal axial compliance bonded to the ends of the cylinder and enclosing it. The hydrophone has a very low response to acceleration forces, but is highly sensitive to acoustic pressure waves.
