The present invention is directed to an accelerator-gel additive used to deliver an accelerator such as sulfur, into a system for the production of polymer modifed asphalt, vulcanized rubber or similar system. Unlike conventional methods of delivering accelerator into the system, the accelerator-gel additive suspends the accelerator in a gel system thereby preventing the sedimentation of the accelerator during processing. As a result, the polymer and asphalt are processed at lower temperature reducing the production of toxic and flammable gases such as hydrogen sulfide.

La présente invention concerne un gel-additif contenant un accélérateur, qu'on utilise pour introduire un accélérateur, tel que le soufre, dans un système destiné à la production de bitume modifié par polymères ou de caoutchouc vulcanisé, ou dans un système similaire. A la différence de méthodes classiques d'introduction d'un accélérateur dans le système, le gel-additif de l'invention suspend l'accélérateur dans un système de gel, ce qui empêche la sédimentation de l'accélérateur pendant le traitement. Ainsi, le polymère et le bitume sont traités à basse température ce qui diminue la production de gaz toxiques ou inflammables, tels que l'hydrogène sulfuré.
