An interactive access system and method for accessing an information source through a television distribution system (11) is disclosed. The distribution system includes a television distribution network (12), headend distribution equipment (36), and a plurality of terminals. An input device and an upstream transmitter (64) are associated with one of the terminals to input an upstream command for the information source. The headend distribution equipment (36) associates with a headend server (38) which is interfaced to the information source, upstream receiver (64) which forwards the command to the headend server (38), and blank interval inserter (90) that receives the information from the headend server (38) and inserts sequential portions into blank intervals of a television transmission on a downstream channel. The headend server (38) forwards command to the information source and receives responses from the source. The blank interval extractor (92) is interfaced to the terminal to extract the inserted sequential portions which is displayed on a display device.
L'invention concerne un système d'accès interactif et un procédé permettant d'avoir accès à une source d'informations par l'intermédiaire d'un système de distribution de télévision (11). Le système de distribution comprend un réseau de distribution de télévision (12), un équipement (36) de distribution en tête de réseau, et une pluralité de terminaux. Un dispositif d'entrée et un émetteur en amont (64) sont associés à l'un des terminaux afin d'entrer une commande amont pour la source d'informations. L'équipement de distribution en tête de réseau (36) est associé à un serveur (38) de tête de réseau qui est en interface avec la source d'informations au récepteur amont (64) qui envoie la commande au serveur (38), et à un dispositif d'insertion d'intervalles vierges (90) qui reçoit les informations provenant du serveur (38) et insère des portions séquentielles dans des intervalles vierges d'une transmission de télévision sur une chaîne en aval. Le serveur (38) envoie une commande à la source d'informations et reçoit des réponses de cette source. L'extracteur (92) d'intervalles vierges est en interface avec le terminal afin d'extraire les portions séquentielles insérées apparaissant sur un dispositif d'affichage.
