A system for accessing a patient's vasculature or other luminal or non-luminal target site comprises a pair of implantable ports and a pair of connecting cannulas (fig. 1). Each of the connecting cannulas will have differently configured distal and proximal ends, typically having side holes or other flow diffuser elements at the distal end (10). Connecting cannulas are selectively attached to the implantable ports by cutting the cannulas at preselected points spaced inwardly from their ends (10). In particular, one of the cannulas will be cut so that the modified end is removed, and the cut end is attached to the implantable port (fig. 2A). The other of the connecting cannulas will be cut so that the non-modified end is removed, and the cut end attached to the implantable port. In this way, systems comprising identical connecting cannulas can be put together while still permitting the user to select between at least two implantable cannula tip configurations.

Cette invention concerne un système permettant d'accéder au système vasculaire d'un patient ou à d'autres sites cibles intracavitaires ou non intracavitaires. Ce système comprend une paire d'éléments d'accès implantables et une paire de canules de connexion (fig. 1). Chacune des canules de connexion est dotée d'extrémités distales et proximales de configurations différentes, et possède en général dans sa partie distale (10) des orifices latéraux ou d'autres éléments de diffusion. Les canules de connexion sont fixées de manière sélective aux éléments d'accès implantables par le coupage des canules en des endroits présélectionnés espacés vers l'intérieur à partir de leurs extrémités (fig. 1). En particulier, l'une des canules est coupée de manière à retirer l'extrémité modifiée puis à fixer l'extrémité résultant du coupage à l'élément d'accès implantable. Les autres canules de connexion sont coupées de sorte que l'extrémité non modifiée est retirée, et que l'extrémité résultant du coupage est fixée à l'élément d'accès implantable (fig. 2A). De cette manière, des systèmes comprenant des canules de connexion identiques peuvent être raccordés tout en laissant la possibilité à l'utilisateur de choisir entre au moins deux configurations d'embouts de canule implantables.
