An access unit for a local area network is disclosed whereby the single port of a concentrator is branched into a plurality of ports by connecting a former-stage connector of a first access unit to a port of the concentrator, and connecting the former-stage connector of another, similar access unit to the latter-stage connector of the first access unit to thereby cascade a plurality of access units. The LAN is expanded by connecting a workstation to the port connector of each of the cascaded access units. The thus connected workstations provide an overlap signal composed of an AC signal and a DC signal. DC signal extraction circuit in the access unit extracts the DC signal from the overlap signal. A relay drive circuit is operated by the DC signal so that a relay is switched to the port connector side and the circuit is then connected to the workstation.
L'invention est une unité d'accès à un réseau local. L'unique port d'un concentrateur est branché à une pluralité de ports par la connexion du connecteur amont d'une première unité d'accès à l'un des ports du concentrateur et par la connexion du connecteur amont d'une autre unité d'accès semblable au connecteur aval de la première unité d'accès pour créer une cascade d'unités d'accès. On élargit le réseau local en connectant un poste de travail au port de chacune des unités d'accès en cascade. Les postes de travail ainsi connectés fournissent un signal de chevauchement constitué d'un signal alternatif et d'un signal continu. Un circuit d'extraction de signaux continu incorporé à l'unité d'accès extrait le signal continu du signal de chevauchement. Ce signal continu actionne le circuit d'excitation d'un relais qui est alors commuté au port, ce qui connecte le circuit au poste de travail.
