An accommodating intraocular lens (32) to be implanted within the natural capsular bag (20) of a human eye (10) from which the natural lens has been removed through an anterior capsule opening in the bag circumferentially surrounded by an anterior capsular remnant (22). During postoperative healing, the anterior capsular remnant fuses to the posterior capsule of the bag by fibrosis (42) about haptics (36) while the ciliary muscle (28) is maintained in its relaxed state, and the lens is deflected rearwardly by the fibrosing anterior capsular (22) to a distant vision position against the elastic posterior capsule (24) of the bag in which the posterior capsule is stretched rearwardly.

Pendant une période postopératoire de cicatrisation, le vestige capsulaire antérieur fusionne avec la capsule postérieure de la poche par fibrose (42) autour d'éléments d'accrochage (36) de la lentille implantée, tandis que le muscle ciliaire (28) est maintenu dans son état relâché par un cycloplégique afin d'empêcher la luxation de la lentille, et la lentille est défléchie vers l'arrière par la fibrose du vestige capsulaire antérieur (22) jusqu'à une position de vision de loin contre la capsule postérieure élastique (24) de la poche, ce qui étire la capsule postérieure vers l'arrière. Un procédé d'utilisation d'une telle lentille intraoculaire, destiné à permettre l'accommodation de la vision chez un patient, est également décrit.
