A fimbrial agglutinogen preparation is prepared from a <u>Bordetella</u> strain, particularly a <u>B. pertussis</u> strain, by a multiple step procedure involving extraction of the fimbrial agglutinogens from cell paste and concentrating and purifying the extracted material. The fimbrial agglutinogen preparation may be used to prepare acellular pertussis vaccines with other pertussis antigens, including pertussis toxin or toxoid thereof, the 69 kDa protein and filamentous haemagglutonin and other <u>Bordetella</u> antigens. Such vaccines confer protection to at least 70 % of an at-risk human population.
La présente invention concerne la préparation d'un agglutinogène fimbrial à partir d'une souche <u>Bordetella</u>, et plus particulièrement d'une souche <u>Bordetella pertussis</u>, selon une procédure comportant plusieurs étapes et notamment l'extraction des agglutinogènes fimbriaux à partir d'une pâte cellulaire, puis la concentration et la purification du matériau extrait. Cette préparation d'agglutinogène fimbrial peut s'utiliser pour préparer des vaccins anticoquelucheux acellulaires qui comprennent d'autres antigènes de la coqueluche et notamment une toxine de la coqueluche ou l'une de ses anatoxines, la protéine 69 kDa et l'hémagglutinine filamenteuse ainsi que d'autres antigènes de <u>Bordetella</u>. De tels vaccins confèrent une protection à au moins 70 % des individus d'une population à risque.
