ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to an acetabular prosthesis in the form of a body surrounding and defining a part-spherical socket surrounded by an annular rim including a flange of non-uniform width extending from the outer periphery of the rim and inclined away from the plane of the annular rim in the direction of the body of the prosthesis. In use, the prosthesis is inserted into an acetabulum containing cement with the rear- most part of the body contacting the base of the acetabulum and the flange advantageously contacting the wall of the acetabulum all around the prosthesis so that the contact between the flange and the wall of the acetabulum maintains the prosthesis firm against rocking in the acetabulum.
