The invention relates to various methods for the acetylation of lignocellulosic fibres such as jute, hemp, wood fibre, sisal, tow, straw and the like, and involves the mixing of the lignocellulosic material acetic anhydride in such quantities as to effect a 20 % weight gain of the material on completion of the acetylation reaction, and also adding energy to the mixture to catalyse the acetylation reaction. The energy may be ultrasonic, thermal, or in the form of microwave radiation.

La présente invention a pour objet divers procédés d'acétylation de fibres ligno-cellulosiques, telles que le jute, le chanvre, la fibre ligneuse, le sisal, l'étoupe, la paille et autres matières similaires. Ces procédés consistent à mélanger la substance ligno-cellulosique à de l'anhydride acétique, dans des quantités suffisantes pour qu'un gain de 20 % en poids de la substance soit obtenu une fois le processus de réaction à l'acétylation achevé. Ils consistent également à ajouter de l'énergie à ce mélange de sorte que la réaction à l'acétylation soit catalysée, cette énergie pouvant être à ultrasons, thermique, ou sous forme de rayonnement à hyperfréquences.
