Abstract of the Disclosure The invention relates to an acetylene gas reactor, preferably for fueling a combustion engine of a motor vehicle. In a sturdily constructed cylindrical housing of the reactor there is, in vertical coaxial alignment, a lower annular water supply container which contains at its center a sludge collecting receptacle that broadens upwardly funnel-fashion and surrounds a sieve basket that is filled by gravity from a calcium carbide supply container above the sieve basket. Encircling the sieve basket there is an annular spray nozzle arrangement that is fed from the water supply container and sprays the sieve basket and the calcium carbide contained in it. The filling opening for calcium carbide is in the upper surface and the sludge removal opening is in the lower surface of the cylindrical housing. The acetylene gas, withdraw from the reactor housing through a connecting nipple, after suitable mixing with combustion air, is conducted to the gas intake nipple of the combustion machine to be operated, or of a similar consumption device, for example a burner nozzle.
