ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention provides an acid-hardenable composition containing an acid-hardenable synthetic resin, or a precursor therefor, together with a polyhydroxy-substituted polyphenyl accelerator. The composition is used as a binder for sand and is hardened by an acid catalyst when the sand/binder mixture is in shaped form. The resin may be a resin known for such purpose such as urea-formaldehyde-furfuryl alcohol resin or may be based on the novel systems of furfuryl alcohol and an aromatic hydrocarbon formaldehyde resin soluble in furfury alcohol or furfuryl alcohol and a copolymer of styrene and allyl alcohol. - 1 -
