Detergent compositions comprising a surfactant system that is either (1) a mixture nonionic and zwitterionic detergent surfactants; (2) a mixture of nonionic and amphoteric (non-zwitterionic) detergent surfactants; or (3) short chain nonionic detergent surfactant, the nonionic detergent surfactants preferably being short chain and/or having peaked distribution; optional hydrophobic cleaning solvent; and polycarboxylate, especially dicarboxylate, detergent builder provide superior cleaning of all of the soils commonly found in the bathroom. The compositions have a pH of from about 1 to about 5.5, preferably from about 2 to about 4 when the dicarboxylate builder is used. The compositions are in the form of aqueous liquids. Short chain peaked distribution nonionic detergent surfactants provide surprisingly superior sudsing characteristics.

Compositions détersives renfermant un système tensioactif constitué soit par (1) un mélange de tensioactifs détersifs non ioniques et à ions dipolaires; soit par (2) un mélange de tensioactifs détersifs non ioniques et amphotères (non dipolaires); soit encore par (3) un tensioactif détersif non ionique à chaîne courte, les tensioactifs détersifs non ioniques présentant de préférence une chaîne courte et/ou une répartition en crête; facultativement un solvant de nettoyage hydrophobe; et un adjuvant pour détergent polycarboxylate et, spécialement, dicarboxylate; lesquels assurent un nettoyage plus poussé de toutes les souillures rencontrées couramment dans les salles de bains. Ces compositions ont un pH situé approximativement entre 1 et 5,5, de préférence entre 2 et 4 environ, lorsque l'adjuvant pour détergent est le dicarboxylate. Elles se présentent sous forme de liquides aqueux. Les tensioactifs détersifs non ioniques à répartition en crête à chaîne courte présentent des qualités de saponification étonamment supérieures.
