A heat expandable baffle comprising a rigid support plate (14) with a cross section shaped corresponding to, but smaller than the shape of the cross section of a cavity to be sealed, a carrier (10) for a heat expandable material (5) and a heat expandable material (5) mounted only to the outer periphery of the carrier has a composite structure. When activated by heating, the expandable material is expanding radially from the carrier to seal the cross sectional gap of the cavity between the carrier and the cavity wall (2,3).

L'invention concerne un écran expansible sous l'effet de la chaleur comportant une plaque de support rigide (14) ayant une section transversale dont la forme correspond à la forme de la section transversale d'une cavité devant être obturée, mais en plus petit par rapport à celle-ci, un support (10) pour un matériau expansible sous l'effet de la chaleur (5) et un matériau expansible sous l'effet de la chaleur (5) disposé uniquement au niveau de la périphérie extérieure du support, l'écran expansible sous l'effet de la chaleur ayant une structure composite. Lorsqu'il est activé sous l'effet de la chaleur, le matériau expansible s'étend radialement à partir du support pour obturer l'espace transversal de la cavité entre le support et la paroi de la cavité (2, 3).
