ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Loose field windings in a rotating electrical machine are detected by sensing acoustic waves created by stator bars and stator wedges. A sensor is mounted on the rotor which responds to sensed acoustic waves by generating an elec- trical signal. The signal is suitably conditioned and transmitted by telemetry means to a computer for process- ing.
