0301-00024 ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A preformed acoustic shield for snap-fit application into an opening of a vehicle door is made of a self-healing cross-linked polyethylene, closed cell, foam plastic to inhibit water, air, dirt and noise from intruding into the vehicle. The shield includes a sheet portion preferably provided with an annular Y-shaped rib, a resiliently deformable pocket of predetermined shape to receive and protect vehicle apparatus, such as a loud speaker or door handle mounted to the panel, and an annular undercut around the base of the pocket sized to interlockingly engage the panel surfaces and provide a first seal about the panel opening, the annular rib being flattened with the sheet portion to provide a second seal around the opening.
