Abstract of the Disclosure A system for flow testing an oil or gas well comprises acoustic transmission and reception devices for communicating preferably through at least 5,000 feet of an annular column of substantially static fluid which is susceptible to gelling which further attenuates the acoustic signals. Coherent acoustic signal communication through such column controls a tester valve to perform a drill stem or production flow test. A corresponding method is also disclosed.
