ACOUSTICALLY DITHERED RING LASER GYRO ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A ring laser gyro is shown in which light beams are circulated in opposite directions around the same closed passageway. The passageway is filled with a laser medium that is also dielectric. The dielectric medium is caused to flow in opposite direction within the passageway by an acoustic dithering mechanism so that the light beams passing through the flowing medium undergo a change in velocity and thus a change in frequency in accordance with the Fresnel-Fizeau effect to eliminate frequency locking.
