The present invention relates to a process to prepare alkyl (meth)acrylate esters from corresponding alkyl/methacrylate esters using an alkali metal alkoxide as an ester interchange catalyst to produce an alkyl (meth)acrylate ester monomer product C. The present invention further relates to the use of bromide and iodide salts as free radical polymerization inhibitors. The present invention further relates to the use of a noninterfering alcohol or polyol that prevents anionic polymerization reactions of reactant ester B and/or alkyl (meth)acrylate product C. The present invention further relates to a process for inhibiting polymerization of (meth)acrylates being synthesized in a transesterification or ester-ester interchange reaction system.

Cette invention a trait à un procédé de préparation d'esters d'alkyl(méth)acrylate à partir des esters correspondants d'alkyle/méthacrylate, lequel procédé utilise un alcoxyde de métal alcalin comme catalyseur d'échange réciproque d'ester et ce, afin de produire un monomère d'ester d'alkyl(méth)acrylate (C). Elle porte, de surcroît, sur l'utilisation de sels de bromure et d'iodure comme inhibiteurs de la polymérisation de radicaux libres ainsi que sur l'utilisation d'alcool ou de polyalcools non interférant qui empêchent des réactions de polymérisation anioniques de l'ester réactif (B) et/ou du produit (C) alkyl(méth)acrylate. Elle concerne également un procédé d'inhibition de la polymérisation de (méth)acrylates en cours de synthèse lors d'une transestérification ou d'une réaction d'échange réciproque ester-ester.
