ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention relates to a method and apparatus in a telecommunication system for activation of means from idling state to active state. The system includes a digital sub- scriber connection in which there is included a line terminal assigned to the station side of the system, a network terminal assigned to the subscriber installation and one or more sub- scriber terminals. The line terminal is connected to a central clock pulse oscillator (master oscillator) on the station side, the network terminal and subscriber terminals con- taining local clock pulse oscillators (slave oscillators). Activation can take place either from the subscriber side or the station side of the connection. In activation from the subscriber side there first occurs a temporary synchroni- zation of the clock rate in the network terminal to the rate from the subscriber terminal local clock. The network terminal is also activated temporary from the subscriber side. After the activation order from the station side has been received in the network terminal, the clock rate of the network terminal is finally synchronized to the rate from the central clock pulse oscillator, there furthermore being achieved a final activation of the network terminal logic circuits. In a similar way the clock rate in the subscriber terminal is synchronized to the rate from the master clock of the line terminal, and there is furthermore obtained a final activation of the circuit logic of the subscriber terminal. No activation request from the subscriber is detected in activation from the station side. The activation order goes directly from the station to the line terminal, the activation sequence otherwise agreeing with what has been described for activation from the subscriber.
