A method for making a chiral transition metal-ligand catalyst complex that is active in catalyzing stereoselective ring opening reactions includes contacting an asymmetric tetradentate ligand, in an excess of a Bronsted acid, with a salt of a first row transition metal, wherein the acidity of the conjugate acid of the salt is the same as or less than the acidity of the Bronsted acid, under conditions effective to allow formation of the active chiral transition metal-ligand catalyst complex, and forming a solution of the complex in a water-miscible, protic solvent from which the active complex can be precipitated by the addition of water and adding water to the solution to precipitate at least a portion of the complex.

L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de préparer un complexe catalyseur chiral à base de ligand-métal de transition, ce complexe étant actif dans la catalysation de réactions stéréosélectives d'ouverture de cycle. Ce procédé consiste à mettre en contact un ligand tétradenté asymétrique, dans un excédent d'un acide de Bronsted, avec un sel d'un métal de transition de la première rangée, l'acidité de l'acide du conjugué du sel étant égale ou inférieure à celle de l'acide de Bronsted, dans des conditions efficaces pour permettre de créer le complexe catalyseur chiral actif à base de ligand-métal de transition; à former une solution du complexe dans un solvant miscible dans l'eau et protique à partir duquel le complexe actif peut être précipité par ajout d'eau et à ajouter de l'eau dans la solution de manière à précipiter au moins une partie du complexe.
