A magnetohydrodynamic sensor having an annular sense channel containing a conductive liquid proof mass (11, 12). A radial flow is introduced into the annular channel (14) which, in response to rotation of the device, produces a coriolis force and resulting circumferential velocity of the fluid. An electromagnetic winding produces an alternating electromagnetic field directed perpendicular to the annular channel. First and second electrodes (17, 18) sense a time varying electric potential induced between the center of the annular channel and the circumference of the annular channel. The time varying electrical potential is proportional to the strength of the time varying electric field and rotational velocity of the channel with respect to said proof mass. The transformer (23) connected to the electrodes provides for amplification of the signal representing the rotational velocity of the channel with respect to the proof mass.

Capteur magnétohydrodynamique comportant un canal de détection annulaire, qui contient une masse d'épreuve liquide conductrice (11, 12). On introduit un flux radial dans le canal annulaire (14) qui, en réponse à la rotation du dispositif, produit une force de Coriolis et donc une vitesse circonférentielle du fluide. Une bobine électromagnétique produit un champ électromagnétique alternatif dirigé perpendiculairement au canal annulaire. Une première et une seconde électrode (17, 18) détectent un potentiel électrique variable dans le temps, induit entre le centre du canal annulaire et sa circonférence. Le potentiel électrique variable dans le temps est proportionnel à la force du champ électrique variable dans le temps et à la vitesse de rotation du canal par rapport à ladite masse d'épreuve. Le transformateur (23) connecté aux électrodes amplifie le signal représentant la vitesse de rotation du canal par rapport à la masse d'épreuve.
