The present invention is an active microchannel heat exchanger with an active heat source and with microchannel architecture. The active microchannel heat exchanger has (a) an exothermic reaction chamber (100) having a first shell (102) defining an exothermic reactant flow path and exhaust flow path, the first shell (102) penetrated with at least one inlet (104), and an exhaust outlet (106); (b) an exhaust chamber (108) having a second shell (110) with a containment wall (111) defining an exhaust flow path connected to said exhaust outlet (106), said second shell (110) penetrated by an exhaust chamber outlet (112), the exhaust chamber (108) having microchannels through which an exhaust flows; and (c) a heat exchanger chamber (114) in thermal contact with the exhaust chamber, said heat exchanger chamber (114) having a third shell (116) defining a working fluid flow path and having a third exterior surface (118) penetrated by a working fluid inlet (120) and a working fluid outlet (122) through which a working fluid flows; wherein (d) heat from the exothermic reaction chamber (100) is converted by an exothermic reaction exhaust through the exhaust chamber (108) and by conduction through the containment wall (111) to the working fluid in the heat exchanger chamber (114) thereby raising a temperature of the working fluid. The invention is particularly useful as a liquid fluid vaporizer and/or a steam generator for fuel cell power systems, and as a heat source for sustaining endothermic chemical reactions and initiating exothermic reactions.
Cette invention concerne un échangeur de chaleur actif à microcanaux comprenant une source de chaleur active et possédant une architecture de microcanaux. L'échangeur de chaleur actif à microcanaux comprend a) une chambre (100) de réaction exothermique comportant une première enveloppe (102) définissant une voie d'écoulement du réactif exothermique et une voie d'écoulement de sortie, la première enveloppe (102) étant dotée d'au moins une entrée (104) et d'une sortie (106); d) une chambre (108) pour l'échappement comprenant une deuxième enveloppe (110) comportant une paroi (111) de retenue définissant une voie d'écoulement pour l'échappement reliée à la sortie (106) pour l'échappement, ladite deuxième enveloppe (110) étant dotée d'une sortie (112) pour la chambre d'échappement, la chambre (108) d'échappement comportant des microcanaux dans lesquels s'écoule un échappement; et c) une chambre (114) d'échangeur de chaleur qui est en contact thermique avec la chambre d'échappement, cette chambre (114) d'échangeur thermique comportant une troisième enveloppe (116) définissant une voie d'écoulement pour le fluide de travail et comportant une troisième surface extérieure (118) dotée d'une entrée (120) pour le fluide de travail et d'une sortie (122) pour le fluide du travail dans lesquelles s'écoule un fluide de travail; d) la chaleur provenant de la chambre (100) de réaction exothermique est envoyée par un échappement de réactions exothermiques dans la chambre (108) d'échappement et par conduction à travers la paroi (111) de retenue jusqu'au fluide de travail se trouvant dans la chambre (114) de l'échangeur de chaleur, ceci faisant monter la température du fluide de travail. Cette invention est particulièrement utile en tant que dispositif de vaporisation de combustible liquide et/ou en tant que générateur de vapeur pour des systèmes de puissance à cellules électrochimiques, également en tant que source de chaleur pour supporter des réactions chimiques endothermiques et pour initier des réactions exothermiques.
