An orbital welding head (10) for joining two tubes (40) positioned end-to-end includes a welding electrode (20) which is rotated around the tubes (40) and a pair of clamps (35) for holding the tubes (40) in the correct position with respect to each other and the welding electrode (20). The clamps (35) include a fixed member (45), a rotatable member (50) and a hinge assembly (55) for joining the rotatable member (50) to the fixed member (45). Fluid channels (140, 170) are formed in both the fixed (45) and rotatable (50) clamp members. Fluid channels within the hinge assembly (55) allows cooling fluid introduced into the fixed member (45) to be carried through that member into the rotatable member (50), cooling both. A return fluid channel (80) is also provided by the hinge (55). The hinge (55) is provided with a passageway for transferring cooling fluid from one rotatable clamp member (50) to another.
